How do embroidery and patches compare?

Both embroidery and patches allow you to customize your product with a name or other personalized information.

What is embroidery?

Embroidery uses thread to stitch a pattern into fabric. Embroidery is one of the first steps in our production process—as the embroidery is applied to the material and that material is later sewn onto the product.

Embroidery is only offered in block (san-serif) font and can only be applied on 1 line. Due to space limitations there will be a different character limit for each product.

What are the backing options for embroidery?

Depending on the product, embroidery will be applied to either webbing or loop material:

Webbing will be the same type AND color of webbing of the product that you order. For example, if you order a blue Summit Collar and opt for embroidery on a webbing backing, the embroidery will be applied to a piece of the same blue webbing we use to make the collar. The embroidered webbing will later be sewn to the collar.

Embroidery on webbing provides the most integrated look since the webbing will match perfectly

When choosing loop as the backing the embroidery will be applied to a strip of loop that is then sewn onto the collar.

Embroidery on loop attachment has the advantage of allowing you to put patches over or next to the embroidery

Whether or not your can put a patch next to your embroidery will depend on many factors, including the size of the collar and character count of the embroidery. The safest way to determine available room is to wait until the product is completed and measure the space available, then order any desired patches.

One downside to loop attachment on the Summit Collars is that the loop colors and webbing colors do not match exactly. Please see the Summit Collar description for a photo that compares the difference.

Do you have examples of embroidery?

Due to the many different product and color combinations, we do not have a catalog of embroidery examples. We suggest scrolling through our Instagram feed to see examples of customer products with embroidery: https://www.instagram.com/moderniconk9/

What is a custom patch?

Our patches use custom vinyl lettering that is applied to a base layer of 1000D Cordura—this method produces a product that looks similar to screen printed, but is actually more durable. By default our patches come with hook attachment backing. However a patch can be permanently sewn to our 1.5″ Summit Collars (if selected on the Summit Collar options when ordering).

Patches offer additional customization since you can pick from several different fonts, 12 vinyl color options (including a reflective silver), and text can be on up to two lines.

What size patch do I need?

The amount of room available for a patch will depend on the size and the product selected. We list the amount of loop attachment available on our collars and harnesses under the Specifications tab for each product. You can also find a drop down at the bottom of the Custom Patch page for quick reference.

What will my patch look like?

Our patch designer gives a real-time preview of your patches as you select options on the Custom Patch page.

Once you select a patch color you will enter into a design mode. If you are not seeing a preview of the patch try selecting a different patch color, if that does not work try using a different web browser, lastly you can contact our support team for help
