How do I install a Fi Module?

If your collar was ordered to be Fi compatible it will include endlinks (metal brackets) to mount a Fi GPS module. Please note these instructions are for the Fi Series 2 module. The Fi Series 3 uses a different attachment system that is not backwards compatible; for Series 3 installation please see this link.

Fi Series 2 Installation

Step 1:
Make sure the brackets are installed in the proper orientation. You will notice tiny “bump outs” on the endlinks. These MUST face out, toward you:

Incorrect Endlink Orientation
Correct Endlink Orientation
Very Important

Endlinks can be installed backwards. Improper installation will result in a Fi Module that does not secure properly. This will likely result in lost endlinks and may result in a lost Fi module.

Step 2:
With the label facing out, toward you, rotate the left endlink so that it is 45 degrees toward the d-ring

Step 3:
Turn the Fi module so that the back of the module is facing out, toward you, and align the endlink with the module mounting points

Hints:

—You will note the module mounting points are “keyed” (stair step down). When the endlink bump outs and module mounting points align properly the keyed portion will match and the endlink will slide in.

—The Fi module housing (above the mounting points) is moulded at an angle such that the endlink will sit flush against the module when installing (see the above photo).

Step 4:
Ensure that the endlink is lined up properly with the mounting points, then push the endlink into the Fi module. At this point the Fi module should be secured and able to articulate on the endlink.

Step 5:
Rotate the Fi module so that the front is facing out, toward you. Make sure that the collar is unbuckled and rotate the right endlink to the right, so that it is 45 degrees toward the buckle

Step 6:
Align the endlink with the module mounting points. Making sure that the endlink is lined up properly with the mounting points, push the endlink into the Fi module. At this point the Fi module should be secured and able to articulate on the endlink.

The Fi module is now successfully installed onto the collar.

You may have noticed that, when the module is facing toward you, the endlinks have to face forward at 45 degrees, then be pushed backwards to disconnect. This makes it virtually impossible for the module to come off the collar when it is being worn and properly sized, as the contour of the collar inhibits this action.

Fi Charging

The right endlink, closest to the buckle, slides along the webbing so that you can charge your Fi module without removing it from the the collar. You will need to make sure your collar is unbuckled before charging.

You may notice getting the Fi module onto the charging base is a tight fit. You can use your index and middle fingers to push down on both sides of the module, while using your thumbs to push up on both sides the charging base. After charging several times the webbing will relax a bit and you will become accustomed to seating the module on the charger, making charging much easier.

Some customers may prefer to unhook one side of the Fi module for charging. If you choose to do so, we highly recommend you unhook the left endlink only. Since that endlink has less play in the webbing it will not fall out and get lost.

Fi Removal

The easiest way to remove the Fi module is to follow the installation steps in reverse order. If the right endlink is unhooked from the Fi module please keep the endlink in a safe location, it will not stay on the collar if it is not secured to the Fi module.

The left endlink can be removed from the collar, making the Fi compatible collar a standard Summit Collar.

However, please note that the process is difficult as the endlink will only come out at a precise angle. Also note that the bump outs on the endlink are a bit sharp and can tear the webbing, so be careful not to get the endlink caught.

If removed, make sure to keep all endlinks in a safe location. Lost endlinks are not covered under warranty.
