The inspiration behind our industry-first Rigid Collar came from one of my very first designs: a shooter’s belt, which I wore as my inner belt when I was a law enforcement officer. A stiffening material in it better distributed the load of my equipment. I applied that same idea to my Rigid Dog Collar which better distributes pressure on the dog’s neck when used for agitation work.

At Modern Icon, we’ve always valued innovation. Now, material science and technology have advanced. The Shooter’s Belts of today are made with ultralight material and laser-cut precision. So I reconceptualized our original Rigid Collar and developed an entirely new concept for a collar that is both ultralight and modular — designed specifically for our Special Operations community.

In the military, they say, “Ounces equal pounds, and pounds equal pain.” This collar is lightweight — at only 6 ounces — making it perfect for military and special operation K9s. I designed this collar to be ultralight but continue to give you the security, stability, and stiffness you expect of our Rigid Collars.

THE BASICS

The internal core is made of Tegris®, 12 layers of military-grade, durable thermoplastic composites. The Tegris® is attached to mil-spec webbing which secures the 1” AustriAlpin COBRA® buckle and custom-designed V-ring to the collar. The external sleeve is made of a material called Squadron®, which is ultra-light and extremely durable.

INFINITELY CONFIGURABLE

To make the collar modular, we pair the core with an external sleeve with laser-cut slots. With one core, you can configure multiple exterior sleeves and tailor them with accessories specific to your intended use.

The external sleeve’s evenly spaced notches make it easy to attach accessories when laid flat. When curved and buckled around the dog’s neck, the collar becomes a stable platform that prevents the accessories from being pulled off.
