Edo’s Crossing: A Story of Brotherhood, Sacrifice, and Second Chances

At Modern Icon, we’ve always believed that the bonds forged in service—between soldiers, first responders, and K9 teams—are unbreakable. Our ethos is rooted in honoring that commitment, crafting gear that serves these Icons, and supporting the men, women, and K9s who dedicate their lives to a higher calling. This is why, when our friend John Devine called us about a film project, we knew it was something special.

We’ve known John since before he was “insta-famous”, back when our shared passion for excellence, service, and storytelling first brought us together. Over the years, we’ve developed a deep respect for his vision and the way he represents the brotherhood that exists among those who have served. So, when John told our founder, Lee, about a short film he wanted to create—one that would highlight the unbreakable bond between a Military Working Dog (MWD) and its handler—we were all in to help any way we could.

John’s vision wasn’t just about telling a compelling story; it was about shedding light on something real — something urgent. Service dogs are saving the lives of combat veterans, offering a second chance for both the handler and the K9. This is the great work of the Rescue22 Foundation, an organization that provides service dogs to veterans in need. Their work is crucial in helping to prevent veteran suicide, offering support and purpose to those struggling with the transition back to civilian life.

The film Edo’s Crossing will be a tribute to that bond: a cinematic portrayal of the connection between a warrior and his dog, both on the battlefield and beyond.

Building for the Mission

When John told us that the film would require specialized K9 gear—custom props for stunts that could withstand the demands of high-intensity action sequences—we didn’t hesitate. This wasn’t just a chance to contribute to a powerful story; it was an opportunity to create gear that would meet the same rigorous standards we set for every piece we make and that would allow the story to be told according to John’s unique vision while keeping both K9 and handler safe during each stunt.

When he told us he only wanted to use Modern Icon gear for the project, it was humbling. We’ve always believed that the best gear is built by those who understand the mission firsthand, and knowing that our products would play a part in telling this story was an honor.

Our team immediately got to work, designing and refining the gear that would be used in “Edo’s Crossing.” The process was a reminder of why we do what we do. We don’t just manufacture equipment; we support those who rely on it in the moments that matter most. Whether in the field or on the screen, our mission remains the same: to build uncompromising, purpose-driven gear that stands up to the toughest conditions.

A Brotherhood Beyond Service

John didn’t just share his idea with us—he took it to his tight-knit community of prior service members, and what started as a concept quickly gained momentum. “Edo’s Crossing” evolved into something larger than he could have imagined, attracting backing and support from some of the best individuals and brands in the industry. Before long, the project had transformed into a full-scale production with Hollywood-level cinematography and a cast of professionals who understood the weight of the story they were telling.

The reality is that the transition from military service to civilian life is a battle of its own. The loss of purpose, the struggle to reintegrate, and the lingering trauma of combat can leave many veterans searching for a lifeline. Organizations like Rescue22 are changing lives by pairing veterans with service dogs. Dogs not only provide companionship but also offer a renewed sense of mission, stability and purpose. This film isn’t just about telling a story; it’s about spreading awareness, supporting the lives saved, and honoring those K9’s and Service Members who’ve paid the ultimate price.

“Edo’s Crossing:” More Than a Film

“Edo’s Crossing” is storytelling with a purpose. It uses Hollywood-level production to bring attention to the struggles veterans face after service, the healing power of K9 companionship, and the unbreakable bonds that transcend the battlefield. Above all, it’s about finding ways to prevent veteran suicide by offering hope, support, and community.

At Modern Icon, we build gear for those who demand the best — not just because it’s our craft but because we understand the weight of that responsibility. Every stitch in every leash, collar, and harness we make carries with it the same dedication to service, resilience, and excellence.

We’re honored to have played a part in the journey of “Edo’s Crossing,” and we can’t wait for the world to see the story unfold. It’s a tribute to those who serve, those who sacrifice, and those who find a way to keep going.

Stay tuned for the release of “Edo’s Crossing” and join us in supporting the mission of Rescue 22. Because some bonds are unbreakable, and those stories need to be told.
